| ABOUT THE ARTIST |
Patricia Getha Fine Equine and Other Art and Photography |
Patricia Getha, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated from the University of Cincinnati, Raymond Walters College with a degree in Applied Science, Communication Art. She worked in the Graphic Arts industry as a pre-press professional for 20+ years before pursuing a lifelong desire to paint and draw her favorite animal, the Horse.
Pat's interest in horses started at a very early age. As a young girl, she spent many summers looking after horses, showing, and working in the barns where she acquired a working knowledge of equine anatomy and behavior. She frequently drew horses and other animals, becoming proficient in her handling of her subjects.
While her primary focus has been the accurate rendering of the equine form, Pat paints and photographs other subjects as well. In the past, her photographs were mainly used as references for her paintings but have now taken on an artistic life of their own. “I try to photograph images from a different perspective, capturing details that are lost to the casual viewer. I tend to look at my photographs as painting material but once in a while, these photographs become the art and can not be improved by painting or drawing them.”
Pat has had noted success as a fine artist. She is co-author of Drawing Horses, a new complete drawing kit for aspiring artists. The kit is published by Walter Foster Publishing, Inc., a well-known publisher of how-to-draw and paint books since the early 1920’s. The kit includes everything you need to complete a wide variety of equine head and full body studies using a step-by-step process.
Recent work includes a second contract with Walter Foster Publishing, Inc. to contribute a new series of drawings that will appear in a new book entitled Drawing Horses and Ponies. She is one of five contributing artists. The new book is scheduled for release in November 2008. Her photography was instrumental to the success of these two projects, providing the publisher a wide variety of material to choose from. Her reference library includes numerous breeds of horses as well as various poses that make for interesting drawing subjects.
Pat’s award winning artwork and photography can be found in many private collections throughout the United States. She is proficient in various media including watercolor, graphite, oil and acrylic. She is very active in her local art community and is a member of the International Equine and Canine Art Guilds. Her work can be seen at www.patriciagetha.com.
